Kebabs have a long-standing history in many parts of the world, be it the Doner Kebab from the Middle East, the Chapli Kebab from Peshawar, or the Galouti Kebab from the ‘city of nawabs’, Lucknow. Each of them has found a fan following across the world. But do you know what is the best way to celebrate World Kebab Day? It has to be by cooking some at home. But kebab is a kind of dish that is never enough, so we often make it in large quantities, which is why there’s a probability of having leftover kebabs in the refrigerator. And with Bakri Eid just around the corner, you need not worry at all.

The second biggest festival celebrated by the Muslims (the first being Meethi Eid), Bakri Eid, also referred to as Eid al-Adha, is marked every year to honour the willingness of Ibrahim (Prophet Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. As per legends, before Ibrahim would sacrifice his son, Allah provided him with a lamb to sacrifice in place of his son. To mark this intervention by God, a lamb (Bakri) is ritually slaughtered during the festival by Muslims across the world.

The date of Eid al-Adha varies every year in the Gregorian calendar. This year, Bakri Eid will be celebrated on July 10, 2022 (Sunday). The festival is celebrated by indulging in a hearty feast, which mostly comprises meaty, juicy delicacies of all kinds. And if you've got some leftover kebabs in the refrigerator, we’ve got you covered with some amazing recipes you can prepare for Bakrid.

1. Leftover Shami Kebab Wraps

This authentic kebab recipe from my beautiful city of Hyderabad will win your heart with its melt in mouth texture. Made with leftover aromatic and flavourful kebabs that are rolled into a wrap and is perfect for a unique treat to impress the kids this Bakrid.

2. Gosht Ke Sukhe Kabab Ka Salan

If you’ve got some deep-fried mutton kebabs ready, all you need for this lovely, easy-peasy recipe is sauté some onions with a handful of common spices, and add the kababs to it, simmer for a while and it's all done. Yes, that is all.

3. Curried Coconut Chicken Kebabs

This recipe makes the kebab fresh, but if you have some chicken kebabs already done, you simply need to make the coconut-based marinade, baste the cooked chicken kebabs with it, sprinkle cilantro and you have an all-new curried chicken kebabs to nosh on. Interesting, isn’t it?
