To celebrate the day, mixologists from various hotels in Kolkata have shared many gin based cocktail recipes, some classics and some rather unique ones. So, if you want to flex your mixology skills this World Gin Day, read ahead to know the simple and interesting recipes.

Vesper Martini

Vesper is a cocktail that was originally made of gin, white vermouth, vodka, Kina Lillet with a strip of lemon zest.

Prep Time: 5 mins

Ingredients:

  • 60ml gin
  • 20ml vodka
  • 10ml white vermouth
  • Ice

For the garnish

1 strip of lemon zest

Method:

  • Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, add cubed ice and shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Double strain by using the regular strainer in your cocktail shaker and holding a fine mesh strainer over your glass. Pour through both strainers into a martini coupe glass.
  • Release the oils from the lemon by pinching the skin and spraying over the glass. Place within the glass.

Clover Club

A Clover Club cocktail is a shaken cocktail consisting of gin, lemon juice, dry vermouth , raspberry syrup, and egg white.

Prep Time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 50ml gin
  • 1 tbsp. dry vermouth
  • 5 fresh raspberries
  • 25ml raspberry cordial (see tip, below)
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. egg white
  • Handful Ice

For the garnish

3 raspberries and a mint sprig skewered on a cocktail stick

Method

  • Put all of the ingredients except the ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake hard for 1-2 mins to froth up the egg white.
  • Add the ice, then shake again until the outside of the shaker feels ice-cold.
  • Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass, then add the raspberry and mint garnish.

Vintage Asia Signature Sour

This Signature Sour is made with liquor, citrus, and simple syrup, then shaken with egg whites to create a unique, velvety texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces London dry gin
  • 1-ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2-ounce simple syrup
  • 1/2-ounce egg white or aquafaba (optional)

Method

  • Garnish: lemon twist (optional)
  • Garnish: 3 drops Angostura bitters (optional)
  • Add the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white (if using) into a shaker and vigorously dry-shake (without ice) if using egg white or aquafaba. (If not using egg white or aquafaba, skip the dry shake and move to the next step.)
  • Add ice and shake again until well-chilled.
  • Strain into a coupe glass.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist. Or if using egg white or aquafaba, decorate the frothy top with 3 to 5 drops of Angostura bitters.

The Tokyo No6

The Tokyo No6 calls for a sweet-and-sour mix. It’s a blend of gin, melon liqueur, rum, tequila, triple sec, and vodka, which gives out a sweet and boozy flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1/2-ounce gin
  • 1/2-ounce melon liqueur
  • 1/2-ounce rum
  • 1/2-ounce tequila
  • 1/2-ounce triple sec
  • 1/2-ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce sweet and sour mix
  • 1 splash club soda
  • Garnish: lemon wheel
  • Garnish: maraschino cherry

Method

  • Add gin, melon liqueur, rum, tequila, triple sec, vodka and sweet-and-sour mix into a highball glass with ice and stir to combine.
  • Top with the club soda.
  • Garnish with a lemon wheel and maraschino cherry.
  • Sweet-and-sour mix: Mix 1-part sugar with 1-part water. Add fresh lime juice to taste.

This newly introduced fruity cocktail is light and refreshing. It is a lady charmer with great complexity and freshness of raspberry, Italian lemon, gin, homemade raspberry liqueur and topped with a floral touch of elderflower foam.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 Fresh raspberries
  • 60ml Gin
  • 15ml Vodka
  • 15ml Lemon juice
  • 15ml Raspberry liqueur
  • 10ml Sugar syrup
  • Elderflower foam

Method

  • Lightly muddle the fresh raspberries in a mixing glass.
  • Add gin, vodka, lemon juice, raspberry liqueur, and sugar syrup to the muddled raspberry.
  • Shake well and double-strain the cocktail in a sherry or coupe glass.
  • Top it with elderflower foam and garnish with fresh whole raspberries.

Sorbet Gin Tones

A delightful treat that combines the refreshing flavors of homemade fruit sorbet with the classic combination of gin and tonic water.

Ingredients

  • 60 gm of sorbet
  • 60 ml of Gin
  • 15 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml sugar syrup
  • Top up with tonic water
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Mint leaves, for garnish

Method

  • Place a highball or balloon glass in the freezer for a few minutes to chill.
  • Remove the glass from the freezer and add a scoop of sorbet to the glass.
  • Pour 60 ml of gin over the sorbet.
  • Add fresh fruit slices, along with lemon juice & sugar syrup
  • Top up with tonic water.
  • Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
  • Add ice cubes to the glass to chill the drink further.
  • Garnish with a sprig of mint leaves, if desired.

A classic spritzer made with one part Prosecco, one part gin, freshly muddled mint leaves, elderflower liquor & lime.

Ingredients

  • 45 ml of Gin
  • 30 ml of Elderflower Syrup
  • 60 ml of Prosecco
  • 60 ml of Soda Water
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • Lime Wedges
  • Ice

Method:

  • Fill a glass with ice cubes.

  • Pour 30 ml of elderflower syrup.
  • Add a handful of fresh mint leaves.
  • Squeeze the juice of a lime or lemon wedge into the glass.
  • Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
  • Top up the glass with 60 ml of Prosecco.
  • Finish by adding 60 ml of soda water.
  • Give it a final gentle stir.
  • Garnish with additional mint leaves and a lime or lemon wedge.
  • Serve and enjoy your refreshing cocktail!

Negroni

Originated in Italy, this cocktail is known for its distinctive bitter and herbal flavour. A classic Italian cocktail made with one part Campari, one part Gin, one part vermouth rosso garnished with an orange peel.

Ingredients

  • 30 ml of Gin.
  • 30 ml of Campari
  • 30 ml of sweet vermouth
  • Orange Peel (optional)
  • Ice as needed

Method:

  • Fill an old fashioned glass with ice cubes to chill the glass.
  • In a separate mixing glass, add 30 ml of Gin, 30 ml of Campari, and 30 ml of sweet vermouth.
  • Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes.
  • Stir the mixture gently and consistently for about 20-30 seconds to chill and properly dilute the cocktail.
  • Discard the ice from the old fashioned glass that was used for chilling.
  • Strain the mixed ingredients from the mixing glass into the chilled old fashioned glass.
  • Garnish the cocktail with a thin strip of orange peel. Express the oils from the orange peel by gently squeezing it over the drink, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel to release more of its aroma.
  • Serve and enjoy your classic Negroni cocktail!
