Kalimpong, an erstwhile Sikkimese Province that was ceded to the Kingdom of Bhutan, happens to be a much quiet little tourist hubs in North Bengal that sees many English-style bungalows as excellent homestay along with few tea estates has always been Darjeeling’s weaker cousin. This place sees a great mix of amalgamated local folk that you can see be it at the Dumber Chowk or the Haat Bazaar.

Recently the town has been news as Kareena Kapoor is shooting for Sujoy Ghosh untitled murder mystery that is based on Keigo Higashino’s bestselling murder novel, The Devotion of Suspect X was seen hogging some Tiramisu.

And she has been taking to Instagram to show her foodie trail in the city where she is seen enjoying some tiramisu to Khowsey, the Burmese dish both from NeenaKitchen. Her Tiramisu story was captioned “Travelled the world only to find the best tiramisu in Kalimpong (heart eye emojis).” While the next story was captioned ‘best meal ever’ courtesy Neena’s Kitchen, a famous Kalimpong-based cloud kitchen.

This authentic Bhutanese restaurant sees some of the best Bhutanese food in the country. From Juma is a minced beef Bhutanese sausage to Sikam Paa is a sun-dried pork belly cooked with fat and red chili. Even their Ema Datshi a thick spicy stew made with various chilli peppers along with churpi yak cheese and Jasha Tshoem Bhutanese chicken white curry are a hit here. This place will also not pinch your pocket. 

Gompu’s Bar & Restaurant 

Known for its oversized pork momos, Gompu’s Bar & Restaurant is known for their Tibetan and Chinese dishes. During lunchtime they do filling thalis (all-you-can-eat plate meals) which you can pair with some chilled beer.

Ni Hao Restaurant

This Chinese restaurant serves one of best Chinese in town here. Their combo meals which will cost you less than anticipated. Fit for family dining, this restaurant is almost close to authentic Chinese

This quaint cafe in Kalimpong is known for its lovely ambiance and sumptuous food. Best place for coffee lovers this boasts of serving delicious aged cheese. With an elaborate collection of books and large French windows that give a good view, guests can enjoy a lovely view too. It opens very early, at 8 am. Their breakfast that sees Balep, a crisp Tibetan bread with spicy diced potato sides (aloo dum) and pickle is best to try here. The place also serves some great steamy Suja (butter tea). This tea is a staple drink of the Himalayan countries prepared with salt and cow or yak butter.
