The winter season is here and so is the season of cough and infections. The pain of being at home with a bad throat and seasonal infection, when all you want is to go out and enjoy a good brunch in the winter sun, is real. Been there done that. And this is why I’ve started to believe in Dadi Nani Ke Nuskhe because with me, they’ve worked each time. Especially the ones that involve a spoonful of honey. So as soon as winter season strikes, I grab a bottle of honey and start having a teaspoon every day in the morning. Don’t we all know the benefits of honey already? It is said to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect which is ideal for cold, sore throats, laryngitis, etc. Honey also helps to strengthen the body’s immune system. There are studies that state that consuming honey empty stomach can keep external infections and diseases at bay.
While these are all the benefits honey can have during the winter season on our body, one problem that it comes along with it is that of frozen and crystalized honey. Due to the lower temperature during winter months, honey can freeze and crystallize, and isn’t in a palatable texture to consume. But don’t worry that’s not the end of everything. There are certain tips and tricks with which you can convert honey back to its original form. We’ve got you sorted.

1. One way is to warm it inside the bottle. Place the bottle of honey with its lid off inside a pot. Pour warm water, not exceed 110º F, into the pan and allow to sit until the honey melts. Keep checking by stirring it now and then, until it returns to its liquid consistency state.
2. Another way to melt honey is to place it in a microwave-safe container, with the lid removed. Heat it for abut 30 seconds, and make sure to not boil it. Keep stirring in between microwave sessions to check the consistency. Do not use microwave method if honey is in a plastic bottle.
You can consume honey in various ways- from salads to drinks to desserts. My most favourite way is to mix it in hot water early morning along with a dash of lime- comes with multiple health benefit and give a sweet start to the day.
