Any coffee addicts in the house? Once you set foot in the southern part of the country, you are bound to find an array of place for filter coffee. Filter coffee, also known by varying names like degree coffee, Mysore filter coffee etc. is a specialized technique of making the beverage. Long before coffee machines were invented, the coffee beans would be roasted and ground before being boiled in water. These coffee beans lent a distinct aroma and taste which made it unique. Today, you find espresso and latte machines being sold in the market and people find it a convenient option too. However, have you ever tried making filter coffee without the machine?

It was only after the discovery of coffee and its large-scale consumption in Europe that coffee was introduced to India. Under the colonial troops, India started its own coffee cultivation and most of it lies in the present-day southern states of the country. The uniqueness of the filter coffee lies in its brewing technique as well as coffee beans. The coffee beans are ground coarsely as compared to regular coffee. These beans are then brewed for long duration of time under low temperatures. This lends the coffee a unique flavour and aroma. Traditionally served in a steel cup and saucer which is slightly different from the cup and saucer that we drink espressos in, filter coffee has a deep saucer which can be used to cool down the coffee by pouring and de-pouring from the cup and saucer continuously.
