Although, we are right in the middle of winter, but this viral video of a seemingly, strange ice cream shows that our love for ice cream goes beyond seasons, and even conventional flavours, if need be. If you are anything of a foodie like us, your social media is most certainly filled with a mix of foods. Foods you would love to grab a bite of and the ones that will leave you utterly confused, like this green chilli ice cream.
We have tried or stumbled upon many interesting variations of ice cream in India, like the recent pan brownie ice cream sizzler that became an internet sensation a few weeks ago. Joining the league is this Mirchi ice cream that has chopped green chillies as one of the core ingredients.
The YouTube video uploaded by the YouTube channel "Spoons Of Indore 2.0," shows a street vendor who is doling out ice creams made of spicy green chillies. The video captures the vendor chopping up ‘Jhannat’ (very spicy) chillies, further he adds a spoon of Nutella and cream on top. He mixes it up swiftly with two steel spatulas until a creamy base was formed. When everything was well-combined, he spread it out on a flat surface and with the help of a spatula he makes thin ice cream rolls. The ice cream was further garnished with more chopped green chillies. Have a look at the video here.
As of Tuesday, the video has clocked in more than 77 lakh views and comments are pouring in from all over. “We seriously need Food Abuse Control Bureau of India(FACBI),” wrote a user. “Ab kuch time mai namak wali icecream bhi aayegi (in some time, we will have salt ice cream too), wrote another anguished user. “Add some garlic and ginger”, read a sarcastic comment.
The vendor, however, seemed rather proud of his creation. He can be heard saying in the video, “Ek Baar Khake Dekho, Maza Ayega (have it once, you will certainly enjoy it)”. And to be fair, this is not the first time, chillies are being used in something that is supposed to be conventionally sweet. Remember the Rajasthani Mirchi Ka Halwa? A Halwa is a sweet pudding made with a gamut of common kitchen ingredients such a semolina, atta, besan, moong dal etc. Mirchi ka halwa has mirchi as the core ingredient, it is deep green in colour and a delight to the tastebuds. But can we say the same about this ice cream too? What do you think about the unique ice-cream, do let us know in the comments below.
