Plant-based diet and veganism have become more than just a niche idea or a mere food trend today. With more and more people willing to give up on meat, dairy, eggs, and other animal-based products in order to either do their bit for the environment or for a healthier lifestyle, the wave is certainly increasing globally. But what this has done for a lot of people leaving meat and animal products, is find vegan alternatives to those products. Thee vegan options may look and taste just like meat, eggs and other such dishes, but would be completely devoid of the presence of animal products, and thus safe for consumption for anyone who follows veganism.

So in the efforts of making veganism more adaptive, widespread, and to have more options, many vegan chefs, food bloggers and enthusiasts have started to come up with their own vegan versions of non-vegetarian food. There are so many examples of vegan kebabs, vegan pasta, and so on. But one that recently went viral and caught our eyes was this egg-free fried egg! Yes, you read that right. In a recent video posted by the Instagram channel @get.plant.ed, one can see how a plant-based fried egg is prepared with the help of tofu, some corn starch, mustard sauce, ketchup, and black salt. The video starts with a user cutting a firm tofu in round shapes, carved a yolk-sized crater on one side and lightly saute it for egg white. On the other hand, the egg yolk is prepared by mixing together corn starch, tapioca starch, mustard paste, ketchup, and black salt. It is then topped over the pan-fried egg white and cooked for a while. The glistening egg yolk to the firm gg whites, the end result looked exactly how your fried eggs at first glance. No doubt that the video garnered over 91k views. The comments ranged from people being shocked, surprised to even disgust. While some users commented how they look ‘exactly like eggs' and how it is ‘clever’ and they’ll try it out, some said it is rather ‘insulting’. 'That's a nope, I am not a vegan but allergic to eggs and am looking for alternatives. That's just insulting', read one of the comments.

One of the users pointed out 'I know everything is supposed to taste like a chicken. But I don't think this could ever taste like an egg.'

What do you think about these eggless fried eggs? Would you try it? Let us know.
