Compared to animal products, vegetarian food is low on fat and isn’t considered beneficial for gaining weight. But do you know it’s a myth that one can’t gain weight with vegetarian food sources? What are the options for vegetarians to build muscle? The question is a bit complicated but has plenty of answers. Not all vegetarian food products are low in fat and calories. For example, nuts, cheese and dairy products have a high amount of good fat content. Their intake helps increase weight and provides the necessary energy and nutrition to your body. If you are someone looking to raise some kilos, we have specific tips for the beginning.

Snacks are helpful

Make a shake by mixing soy milk, almonds and fruits such as banana. Banana is a fibre-rich fruit that provides wholesome nutrition. Eating adequate amounts of nuts such as almonds and walnuts between meals gives you protein and healthy fats. Nuts contain polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, and these both are beneficial for the heart. In addition, walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary for good eyesight.

Protein is beneficial too

If you are seeking weight gain, then 10 per cent of your diet should be protein. Paneer is the most famous vegetarian origin of protein so that you can do a lot with paneer in your daily meals. Beans and nuts contain a high level of protein. You can get enough protein by adding half a cup of black beans to the rice or mixing the beans in the baked potato. A bowl of curd along with cereal for breakfast also helps in gaining weight.

Calories that don't compromise on nutrition

Of course, you want to gain weight, but it does not mean that you start eating unhealthy calorific food. High calorie and high nutritious food should be chosen only. For example, you should consume raisins instead of grapes. Stay away from canned juices since they are full of sugar content and low nutrient content.

Increase carbohydrates in the diet

Sixty per cent of your daily nutrition should be carbohydrates. Include white rice, pasta, oatmeal and bread slices in your diet. You get a lot of carbohydrates from it.

Weight gain is a gradual process and requires everything in moderation to not turn into fat. Hence, you should balance the nutritional elements in your diet.
