Yesterday India celebrated the ‘festival of lights’ Diwali with great excitement and enthusiasm. The entire nation was decorated with diyas, colourful lights and rangolis. Diwali is an auspicious occasion that is devoted to Lord Rama. On this day he returned to Ayodhya with his wife Sita and brother Laxman from 14 years exile.
Considered as one of the biggest festivals of Hindu community, it is celebrated in other countries as well by Indian diaspora living there. Recently, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti shared a video of him celebrating Diwali. In the video, he was spotted having great fun with music, dance and delicious dishes. Ambassador Garcetti was seen wearing Indian attire and many other members of US Embassy community were also taking part in the celebrations. “Delighted to celebrate #Diwali with dance, food and music with my colleagues for the first time here in India! At this auspicious time, may the festival of light bring you happiness and prosperity in the new year”, he said on X.
Besides dancing to the iconic Bollywood song “Chhaiyya Chhaiya”, Diwali celebration also included yummy samosas and sandwiches along with green chutney. The founder chancellor of Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu also shared a video of the ambassador showing off his desi thumkas.
“I applaud the jovial spirit of US Ambassador to India, Mr. @ericgarcetti, for showing delightful interest in Diwali celebrations. Let there be light and happiness in the relationship of US and India like this forever”, the chancellor wrote on X. Have a look at the video.
Last month during the festival of Durga Puja, US Ambassador Garcetti was also seen visiting a pandal in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park. There he participated in the puja ceremony, performed dhunuchi naach (a traditional dance dedicated to Goddess Durga) and relished some Bengali street delights like jhal muri, puri and fish.
