At a time when the world was witnessing sad realities of the pandemic, it was humour that kept us alive. Kapil Sharma, a renowned stand-up comedian of Indian television, has been making us laugh in good and bad times through his The Kapil Sharma Show. Often times, on the show, Kapil is seen joking about offering fruits to the celebrity guests that have arrived. Sometimes, his bua (paternal aunt) played by another actor on the show, makes the celebrity peel peas and chop veggies for preparing a vegetable for them. However, this time, no one dared to make something because it was Chef’s Special.
Celebrity chefs like Sanjeev Kapoor, Ranveer Brar and Kunal Kapoor made an appearance on Kapil Sharma’s latest episode. The maestros of Indian culinary industry had a fun-filled time, where Kapil, the host of the show, was seen joking about their families being offered cooking utensils (kadhai) instead of congratulations (badhai) on their birth and even went on to say that they must clap like they are making rotis. Amidst this fun banter, he says that they haven’t prepared any food for the chefs to eat since they are experts and would like them to eat natural foods like fruits and nuts.
That’s when the conversation took a nutty tone and Kapil jested that they might critically analyse their cashews, raisins and almonds too for being too stale, tanned or wrinkled. This left everyone in splits. While Chef Kunal Kapur grabbed a bite of a cashew from the jar, Archana Puran Singh, the judge of the show, fooled him by saying, “Guess karo yeh kitne mahine purane hain?” (guess how old are these cashews).
Not only are we amused with the food and cooking puns that were cracked on the show, we also loved the nuttiness that was added to make it a treat to watch. Since nuts are good for health and enhance the taste of food too, how about we give you some nutty recipes to try too? Here’s how you can add them to your food.
1. Bengali Pilaf With Cashews And Raisins
Pilaf is a popular rice dish that originated in the Middle-East. Cooked in oodles of ghee, caramelized onions are added to the rice along with spices. The dish is garnished with cashews and raisins and served with a side of a meaty curry.
2. Irish Soda Bread With Raisins
This is a special type of Irish bread that is commonplace on Saint Patrick’s Day. The bread is soaked in milk and the crunchy texture of the bread is balanced by the soft and nutty flavour of raisins that are filled in the batter.
3. Badam Halwa
Also known as almonds, badam ka halwa is quite a sweet meat in Indian households. The rich and decadent pudding is filled with the goodness of almonds and a thick and smooth mixture is sweetened with sugar. This is usually served hot.
