Jamuns (black plums) are filled with nostalgia. This deep-purple hue, and sweet-sour taste plum can bring back several memories from our time in childhood. And I, for one, remember having a large jamun tree at the back of my house, though it technically belonged to our neighbor, we all considered it as ‘ours’. Every summer whenever the plums were in full bloom, our gracious neighbor used to give us a whole polybag filled with jamuns. Needless to say, we enjoyed those little pulpy fruits with a sprinkle of kala namak and chaat masala. It is the classic way of savouring the jamun but you can also enjoy the fruit in a number of other ways. For instance, you can easily make a refreshing glass of jamun sharbat. As jamun are packed with innumerable health benefitting properties, this drink would not only revitalize you but will also strengthen your immunity which is much needed in this sweltering weather. Moreover, black plums are known to be good for skin due to the presence of antioxidant properties too. This summer you could achieve the natural glow from within with this glass of heavenly sharbat. Here’s the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup jamun
  • 1- 1 ½ tbsp sugar or other sweetener
  • ½ tsp Himalayan salt
  • 1-2 cups water
  • Ice cubes

Preparations:

1. Wash the jamuns well. Remove the seeds of the fruit.

2. After that in a blender add the seedless jamuns, sugar, Himalayan salt and water. Blend them for at least 40-50 secs or until they are smooth. You can also add lime juice for the extra zest.

3. In a glass add ice cubes and pour the blended jamun juice into the glass. Stir it well.

Your rejuvenating jamun sharbat is ready for slurping. Enjoy this chilled beverage.
