So, when a much-loved chef actually makes something like a dal sandwich, it automatically makes us think if they too have caught the viral fever. But if the chef in question is the legendary Sanjeev Kapoor, then it is definitely way beyond any viral trend.

When Chef Sanjeev Kapoor shared a reel on his Instagram saying he is presenting a dish that is dal sandwich, it was not very convincing. But a little dig and some google search will tell you that it is not something that is entirely unique or unheard of. Infact, a lot of Sindhi people do enjoy dal sandwich a lot. It is also a very famous snack in Ulhasnagar. So, people do eat this sandwich and if so many people actually enjoy it, there is surely no harm in giving the recipe a chance, right? Dal sandwich at Ulhasnagar | Instagram @kajal.chanchlani

Ingredients

  • 100gm tur dal
  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 onion sliced 
  • 3-4 green chillies 
  • Salt as required
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp amchur powder
  • Butter
  • Coriander leaves
  • 2 boiled potatoes
  • Sev for garnish

Method

  • In a pressure cooker, get the dal to boil.
  • Add salt and turmeric and cook the dal till it is completely boiled.
  • In a bowl, mash the boiled potatoes.
  • Add the powdered spices and mix well.
  • Next, add the chopped onions, chillies and coriander leaves.
  • When the filling is ready, prepare the slices.
  • Butter up one side of each slice of bread.
  • Add the potato filling on the not butter side and cover it with the non-buttered slide of another slice.
  • Toast the sandwiches on a tawa.
  • On a plate, keep the sandwiches.
  • Poor the prepared dal over the sandwich.
  • Garnish with sev. The dal sandwich is ready.
