Ingredients

  • 1 cup moong dal (yellow lentils)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

Method

  • Dry roast the moong dal in a pan over medium heat until it turns golden brown. Be sure to stir it constantly to prevent it from burning.
  • Once the dal is roasted, remove it from the pan and let it cool down for a few minutes.
  • Using a fork or a masher, mash the dal until it is a coarse powder.
  • Add the chopped onions, green chilies, and coriander leaves to the mashed dal and mix well.
  • Add mustard oil, lemon juice, salt, cumin powder, and red chili powder to the mixture and mix well.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
