Travel Sandwich (vegetarian)

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf bread
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 onion (optional)
  • 1 cucumber
  • Mayonnaise
  • Cheese (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper
  • Oregano

Method:

  • Cut the vegetables into slices to easily place inside the loaf.
  • Slice the loaf of bread in half.
  • Spread mayonnaise first using a knife or spoon.
  • Start adding the ingredients, one by one.
  • Place a layer of sliced tomato and finally a layer of cucumber (you may add a layer of onion too or layer two to three slices of cheese). 
  • Close and press the sandwich. 
  • Cut the sandwich into pieces that are convenient for eating such as a serrated bread.
  • The sandwich is ready to eat.
  • Cling wrapping these will stay nice and fresh for two more days.

Travel Sandwich (non-vegetarian)

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • 400-500 gms deli meat
  • 4 slices deli cheese 
  • 4-6 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato
  • ¼ cup pickled banana peppers
  • Mayonnaise, to taste
  • Mustard, to taste
  • Italian seasoning, to taste

Method:   

  • Cut the vegetables into required sizes.
  • Take the bread loaf and cut it into half.
  • Place the ingredients one by one - a layer of meat followed by cheese.
  • Now, place the sliced tomato, banana peppers and finally lettuce for the crunch.
  • Add mayonnaise, mustard and salt and pepper or other Italian seasoning
  • Close and press the sandwich.
  • Cling wrap the sandwich to keep them fresh for one or more days.

A travel sandwich is very much helpful for road trips especially through cars and sometimes in trains too. Ingredients may or may not be carried as bread, mayonnaise packets, vegetables and seasonings are available on the way. Knives may be carried as per safety convenience options.
