Weightlifter Chanu Saikhom Mirabai became a household sensation the moment she bagged the coveted silver medal on the first day of Tokyo Olympics. Making India proud Mirabai Chanu stood runner-up at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Women's 49 kg, securing India's first medal in the Olympic games. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the games were postponed by a year, and Mirabai made sure it started on a bang for us by winning the honour on Saturday.

All of 26, Mirabai hails from Imphal East, and much like every millennial, one of the toughest challenges for the ace weightlifter during her training days was refraining from junk food. When asked what she would like to do after her win, her response made the whole internet including actress Anushka Sharma relate. Mirabai Chanu said that she would finally gorge onto some pizzas now that she has a chance. Domino’s heard the silver medallist and offered a lifetime supply of free pizzas to Chanu on the microblogging site Twitter.

Congratulating Mirabai Chanu on her feat they wrote, “You brought the dreams of a billion+ Indians to life and we couldn’t be happier to treat you to FREE Domino’s pizza for life. Congratulations again!!"

They were quick to act upon her promise too as on Sunday, the pizza giant sent over some pizzas to Mirabai Chanu’s home. They also took to their Twitter to share pictures of the same.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also announced that the state government will be giving a cash award of ₹1 crore to Olympic medalist as a token of appreciation.

Mirabai Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg weight in her four successful attempts. After winning the medal, she thanked her team, and the whole country for supporting and rooting for her.
