Omelette is inarguably one of the easiest things to make, and that’s why we love experimenting with it. It is also a very forgiving recipe, so even if you botch it up a bit, you know you would still end up with something nice and yummy. Now adding cheese, herbs and spices in omelette is commonplace, have you ever tried adding papad to it? You heard us. There is no dearth of bizarre food experiments on Indian streets. Omelettes have not been spared either, from fire omelette to ‘paaniwala (water)’ omelette, we have seen it all. Another unique omelette preparation that has taken the internet by storm is the ‘papad’ omelette.
For the uninitiated, Papad is a kind of an Indian cracker that can be either fried or roasted, it could be made out of lentil, rice or sabudana. It is usually eaten as a snack or as a side dish for main meals.
How Is The Papad Omelette Made
In this Instagram reel by @Are_you_hungry007 that is now going viral, we see a Delhi vendor confidently using a roasted papad on top of an omelette. He is the same man who gave us the ‘Paaniwala’ omelette by the way.
To make his papad omelette, he first pulls out papad from a packet, roasts it gently and keeps it aside. Then he beats the eggs for his omelette, adds all the spices, veggies, salt and pepper and drops it in the same hot pan which he had already greased with butter; and as the omelette starts to cook, he places the papad on top, then goes on to add some grated cheese, chopped tomatoes and chopped dhaniya. Once the omelette is ready, he cuts it into four parts and serves it hot with more cheese. Doesn’t that sound super tempting? It sure looks like a recipe we would like to try when we are particularly craving something crunchy and cheesy.
Papad, for that matter, is actually a very versatile food. If you have more time, we suggest you try the recipe of Masala Papad, which is basically papad topped with chopped onions, cilantro, tomatoes and sev.
If you are feeling even more experimental you can try these papad prawn rolls. Both these snacks could give your chai-time a delish upgrade.
