As part of the in-flight dining service and a first for an Indian airline, Akasa Air has planned on introducing the fermented probiotic beverage known as kombucha, as a beverage option for its fliers. Known to be good for gut health, liver health as well as light on the stomach, the airline has decided to collaborate with an Indian kombucha brand – Borecha, who are known to make their drinks by fermenting Assam and Darjeeling tea varieties.
Apart from customers being able to purchase the mango flavoured drink on all flights, it has also been made available for pre-booking which can be done through the official website or digital application. The decision to add the cooling, gut-friendly beverage on the menu comes from a place of understanding that most people are conscious of their food and drink choices these days as well as catering to a broader spectrum of taste palettes and dietary preferences.

The new addition to Café Akasa’s menu aims to provide an elevated dining experience for its travellers, who can pair this fermented drink with their meal of salads or sandwiches. This apart, the airline also offers a variety of gourmet, healthy, fusion and festive meals, which hopes to cater to the increasing dietary requirements that differ from one individual to another.
In an official press release issued by the airline, Belson Coutinho – the co-founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer of Akasa Air said, “At Akasa Air, we are continuously evaluating customer feedback to offer an inflight experience that aligns with their evolving needs and expectations. Modern day customers are becoming increasingly conscious of their food choices, and we are delighted to partner with Borécha to become the first Indian airline to serve Kombucha, a probiotic drink on board. As a healthier alternative for soft drinks, Kombucha has become extremely popular for its distinct taste and probiotic properties. We hope that travellers will appreciate the choice of enjoying the delicious and healthy beverage while they immerse themselves into the warm Akasa Air experience.”
