Calcattians swear by this European tearoom from the British era that was founded in 1927 by Mr. and Mrs. J Flurys. This iconic breakfast joint located at the hub the city, at Park Street is about all things vintage. Their all-time classic ‘English Breakfast’ is a show stopper. It sees a plate full of two grilled sausages, two rashes of crispy bacon, one poached egg, two slices of bread, one grilled tomato, mushroom, butter along with tea or coffee and the other that one must not miss is their  ‘on toast’ that sees toasted buttered bread with a generous spread of creamy mushroom, chicken or baked beans. Keeping up with the demand the place also sees some healthy options like Jogger’s Breakfast, that’s a mix of carrot/cucumber juice, high fibre multigrain bread or their three egg-white omelet with spinach and onion.

Abar Baithak

This café is based on the theme of Satyajit Ray's Oscar winning detective character Feluda, Located in Jodhpur Park, Abar Baithak is an Ode of to all things Bengali. This café is favourite of most locals around the place and from their English breakfast, to your Eggs benedict to all meat platters they simply do it best. Loaded with books and board game, one could never get bore at this café. Their Their ‘All Meat Platter’ is the main highlight. This place is perfect for that lazy weekend breakfast to hog on.

Abar Baithak is open 9am to 10pm; Monday to Sunday.

The Country House


This European style café is bang opposite Forum mall. Bougainvillea’s and leafy greens make this place a much sort after with its’ brick finish, high ceilings. The Country House has it all. Their Nutella waffles sees four sections of warm waffles that has been topped generously with a heap of Nutella and for coffee addicts they serve your caffeine dose in Tumblr mugs which have captions ‘Coffee as black as my soul’ and ‘Zombie vaccine’ written on them. Coming to the eggs from Benedict, Devilled or Frittata they have it all on the menu. This hearty breakfast place located in the bylanes of Hindustan Park classic Chicken Olive Sandwiches too. Not just dine-in you can also pick up baked goods and pastries from here.

Maharani Tea & Tiffin

This famous Bengali breakfast joint is all about the subtle aroma of hing kachoris, jalebis and more. Maharaja and Maharani, happen to be the twin snack shops, that has barely few chairs and is still a major crowd puller from South Kolkata. Their kachoris,  gulab jamuns and the bharer cha are just not to be missed. In this 40 year old street side eatery, the employees can be spotted wearing a special uniform too. The experience here needs to end with some tea and ‘jilipi’

Terreti Bazar


Soaked in history and heritage, Terrati Market is Kolkata’s original Chinese settlement hub of the city. Right oopposite Poddar court as you enter this busy lane you can spot vendors loaded with fresh vegetables and fishes, but as you move further in the lane, the aroma of Soup noodles, shumai, sausages, prawn wafers, chicken rolls, Pork momo, pork Tai Pao, steamed baozi buns, dumplings (steamed and deep), fish meat ball soups, wonton and more fill the street. Everything is authentic Chinese here. Interestingly this bazar only opens for couple of hours before the street gets busy.
