Have you heard about the new ‘Sour Patch’ grape trend? If not, you’ve been missing out on a hack that makes fruit a lot more fun! The Internet can’t stop binging on this snack which essentially transforms grape into candy, in a few minutes! It's called the 'Sour Patch' grape since its flavour resembles the taste of the popular candy Sour Patch Kids which have sweet and sour notes.

It does use a special kind of designer grape which tastes better than regular grape and is ideal for making desserts. The grape was created by hybridising by horticulturist David Cain and his team at International Fruit Genetics in Bakersfield, California. The grape has been made commercially available since 2011 and its production has been growing ever since. It has 12 per cent more sugar than regular grapes but has fewer carbs than raisins.

Cotton candy grapes are typically larger and rounder than traditional grapes, with a pale green to light yellow colour. The Sour Patch grape hack offers the best results with these grapes; however, you can also try it with regular table grapes since they freeze the same way and absorb flavours naturally. If you want to make this grape candy at home, you just need a few simple ingredients. Let's have a look at the recipe.

Ingredients:

Fresh green grapes (cotton candy or regular)

Lime juice

Granulated sugar

Lime zest

Method

Start by thoroughly rinsing the grapes under cold water and patting them dry with a paper towel. This step helps ensure that the grapes are clean and free from any debris.

Place the washed grapes in a large mixing bowl, ensuring that they are spread out evenly. If possible use a wide, rectangular tray.

Drizzle freshly squeezed lime juice over the grapes, ensuring that each grape is lightly coated. The lime juice adds a tangy kick to the overall flavour profile.

Sprinkle granulated sugar generously over the grapes, ensuring that they are evenly coated. The sugar balances out the tartness of the lime juice and imparts a delightful sweetness.

Gently toss the grapes in the lime juice and sugar mixture until they are thoroughly coated. Take care not to crush or damage the grapes in the process.

Once coated, transfer the grapes to a serving platter or tray, arranging them in a single layer for presentation. For an added burst of citrus flavour and visual appeal, sprinkle lime zest over the coated grapes as a garnish.

Chill them in the refrigerator for at least an hour and serve.
