In order to spread awareness about international food cultures as well as emphasise the importance of nutritional health, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced the G20 Food Festival, scheduled to take place on February 11 and 12, at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi. Ahead of the upcoming event, the city’s civic body has shared information that 29 countries have been invited to participate and let guests sample food from the countries they represent.

The theme of the festival has been announced as ‘Taste of the World’ and ‘International Year of Millets’, in order to celebrate the rich culinary legacies of the participating countries. While chefs, supplies and labour will be arriving from all across the world to be part of this food festival, the civic body has offered to provide on-site logistical support, electricity, water and dustbins. The Group of Twenty countries include Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, United Kingdom, the United States of America, amongst others.

It is reported that various parts of the city are being revamped, along with heritage walks and designated food streets being planned, for visitors to enjoy. Other features would include food preparation workshops, live demonstration counters along with visual and written displays, explaining the type of food on offer. There will also be a separate space dedicated to cultural programmes and host performers from the participating countries.

The festival, along with feeding people also hopes to educate them about the history of cuisines, the traditions associated with the food as well as its evolution. Tickets to the festival are available online. The food festival is expected to be followed by a flower festival scheduled to happen at the Central Park in Connaught Place on March 11 and 12.
