Whether we have a sweet tooth or not, indulging in tasty desserts is a guilty pleasure for all. Like any other trend, dessert trends have evolved over time. Desserts are the perfect finish to every meal, which satisfies our sweet cravings as well. The classic sweets have evolved into something more diverse, innovative, and reflective of the latest food trends. The 2022 dessert trend has evolved into a more guilt-free and indulgent one in 2023.
Now, baker and entrepreneur Elisha Parikh has suggested dessert forecasts for the year ahead.
1. Supreme Croissants: This famous circular round of flakey, crunchy, and buttery goodness made by the Lafayette bakery in New York has been loved all across the world. These croissants have made their way through London, Korea, and now Mumbai. Croissants need days of lamination, proofing, and assembly. However, once the dough is perfected, it can be made into any form and shape. We can expect croissants to become the staple food of almost every bakery.
2. Gourmet Doughnuts: This one by Donutelier was the favourite dessert of London in 2022. In the previous year, bakers started experimenting with donuts and beignets. However, this year, doughnuts have been put in the notch. The London bakery has transformed the classic dessert into a decadent dessert with toppings of choux pastry and diplomat cream and flavours such as chocolate pretzels and pink royal. However, this may undergo a change, putting a spin on this deep-fried delight.
3. Dairy replacements: People have been searching for dairy replacements in their desserts, and this can become a trend in 2023. The replacements can be reflected in dairy-free options like oat or almond milk. These alternatives will gain popularity as they are simple to prepare at home. Plant-based milk has several health benefits that are comparable to or better than those of dairy milk.
With active social media indulgence, several trends have been popping up. The trending and tweaking of desserts will determine the adaptability of home bakers and professionals in the upcoming days.
