Spring is meant to be a time to enjoy mild weather that doesn’t reach extremes. Considering the fact that summer in Delhi can be harsh, it’s best to make the most of springtime. The city has some beautiful al fresco restaurants where you can dine under the sun or the stars. We pick the five best ones.
Fig and Maple
Fig and Maple has been a worthy addition to Greater Kailash-II’s food scene. Among the many restaurants in the area, Fig and Maple stands out for its terrace, which makes a great spot for anyone looking to eat and drink in the open. Open for both lunch and dinner, the menu at the restaurant includes fusion dishes that pair ingredients like masoor with moringa. The bar offers over 70 infusions with gin.
Olive Bar & Kitchen
The brainchild of AD and Sabina Singh, Olive Bar & Kitchen has been a favourite with the Delhi crowd ever since its inception. The place has managed to please its customers with its chic blue and white decor and Italian dishes. Enjoy a cocktail while you look up at the bright blue sky or as you spot the moon. Soft, moody lighting makes it ideal for dates. You’ll also find some of the best pizzas in the city here.
Auro Kitchen & Bar
When Auro first opened, it was known for its food. Despite the fact that it has slowly gone on to become a nightlife destination, the food at Auro still remains very good. Some of the dishes are a fusion of Eastern and Western flavours, while others are classics. Choose from healthy salads and starters like chicken lollipops and Tibetan hot dog. If you’re visiting in the evening, book an early slot to avoid the drinking crowd.
Diggin Cafe
With outlets in both Anand Lok and the Santushti Shopping Complex, Diggin has become quite the name when it comes to cafes in Delhi. Both have been tastefully done up with ample outdoor seating. Bright tablecloths and seat covers give the place added cheeriness. The menu focuses on Italian food and includes sandwiches and burgers, too.
Thai High
One of Mehrauli’s prettiest restaurants, Thai High is known for its view of the Qutub Minar. Although people tend to visit for the excellent food, it’s main attraction remains the view. The menu includes classics like satay and spicy raw papaya salad, and also lesser known dishes like silken tofu with black mushroom and corn marinated with coconut and red curry paste. If you don’t wish to be entirely outdoors, you can always book one of the cabanas.
