As soon as the summer season arrives, we equip ourselves with all things cool and refreshing. Our body starts to get dehydrated easily, and we often crave something sweet and juicy to ensure we have adequate water in our bodies. But does that make us forget our sweet tooth? No. We still crave the same jalebis, gulab jamuns and halwas, however, the season demands something light and well, chilled. And don’t worry, the season offers just enough options of desserts that are summer-friendly. For instance, the fresh produce of fruits that summer comes with, is just enough to make so many desserts that you’ll be spoilt with choice. These fruits make for the perfect desserts to cool ourselves down on scorching days and nights. Don’t believe us? 1. Mango Shrikhand 

A staple in Gujarati and Maharashtrian households, this desi dessert requires nothing more than hung curd, sugar and flavourings of your choice including cardamom, saffron, etc. You can simply add mango puree to it, blend, chill in the refrigerator, and simply dig in. 

2. Kulfi 

The king of desi desserts during summer season, this Indian ice cream finds a sweet spot in almost every Indian’s heart. Its velvety texture and irresistible taste make it our absolute favourite. It is made with milk and flavoured with saffron, cardamom, pistachio and almonds, before serving chilled. But you can flavour it as per your choice using mango, watermelon, rooh afza and so on.

3. Rasmalai 

Another summer-special dessert which is served chilled, this crowd-pleasing popular Bengali dessert is made with fresh chenna or paneer, which is turned into soft, spongy dumplings and soaked in a mouth-watering malai syrup.  

4. Phirni 

Oh how delicious this Kashmiri dessert is! A sweet pudding that simply melts in the mouth, phirni is traditionally served in clay bowls, which lends an earthy flavour to it. Made with rice, milk and nuts, one can also turn it around by adding mango slices to it as well. Serving in clay bowls also gives a cooling effect to the phirni.  

5. Falooda 

The ultimate way to cool your body down in scorching summer heat- a refreshing glass of falooda! Spruce it up with some mango slices, a generous scoop of ice cream and some crunchy nuts, and you have the perfect summer dessert ready. You can also top it up with rose syrup, if you wish to give your dessert a striking pink hue!
