Theme cafes have become a rage nowadays and the trend has gone beyond just the decor or the name of the dishes. Restaurants and eateries based entirely on movies and shows are becoming a major tourist attraction all over the world, and the latest to join the list of Friends, Dr. Who, and more is Stranger Things. One of the most popular OTT series of recent times, Stranger Things has been successfully running ever since it was first launched on OTT in 2016. The fourth season of the fantasy show was released in July and it has shattered several records ever since its release. The show is based in the 1980s, a number of popular culture items from that era have begun to trend now including fashion, songs and even snacks. Besides inspiring musical and fashion sense, the show has now inspired a café too! Yes, you read that right. A pop-up cafe inspired by Stranger Things has come up in Shibuya, Tokyo and has delighted a number of the show’s fans. Take a look:
'Stranger PRONTO' is a collaboration of a local restaurant chain called PRONTO in Japan, which was originally started on July 6 2022. The pop-up can be easily visited till December by the people to enjoy the special menu and pop-up restaurant. The PRONTO bar in Shibuya Fukuras is open between 10 am to 11 pm, and boasts of a number of Stranger Things references. From popular songs from the series such as 'Running Up That Hill' by Kate Bush playing in the background, to an opportunity for the fans to get clicked with a Demogorgon monster or the iconic string of lights from the show, PRONTO offers it all. Moreover, there are small merchandise items on sale including themed badges or coasters too, which fans can buy. The smallest of details have been given quite a lot of attention. For instance, sign boards of places like Scoops Ahoy and Surfer's Bay pizza are also placed in the cafe.
The menu at the Stranger Things cafe is, well obviously strange with some of the most interesting references that is surr to ring a bell. Be it the drink called 'Upside Down' or the classic 'Eggo Waffles' that were Eleven's favourite snack on the show. A bizarre squid-ink pasta arranged to be shaped like the monster's head has been making many heads turn. Isn’t it a paradise for for Stranger Things fans?
Since the pop up is gaining popularity fast, it does require reservations a few days in advance. More so because it allows only 20 customers at a given time. This was highlighted by certain customers as well. "Every day at midnight, I have been trying to book a table on my phone. Finally, there's an opening today because someone had cancelled the reservation," 29-year-old Kimiko Nakae told CNN.
What are your thoughts about the unique cafe based on the series? Will you like to visit it? Let us know.
