The story of Sita Ram Diwan Chand begins in 1947, the year of India’s Partition. At just 15 years old, Sita Ram Kohli arrived in Delhi from Lahore, seeking a new beginning. He noticed the thriving food carts around Old Delhi and decided to carve out his niche in the culinary world. Setting up a modest food cart in Paharganj, he started serving Lahori chole bhature, a dish combining spicy chickpeas with soft, paneer-stuffed bhature.

Sita Ram’s initial venture was a simple cart stationed outside the local DAV school in Jhula Mandi. Its success led him to establish a more permanent setup at the Imperial Cinema in Paharganj, which was a bustling hub for refugees at that time. The eatery quickly gained popularity among the local crowd and cinema-goers, becoming an integral part of the neighbourhood’s food scene.
