In most parts of the country, where it is raining incessantly, the government has declared holidays in some schools. Kids and mothers are indoors because of the continuous rain, so this is an ideal part of the day to try some hot, lip-smacking monsoon snacks that are delicious to create a bond with each other. Kids wait for the rainy days in excitement to have something hot and yummy. Even mom's look out for a lot of quick and easy recipes which also are liked by the kids. Let us lay down some delicious monsoon quickies which will come handy in just those times when you wish to keep up the mood of your little one, and meanwhile the rain pours out. 

Potato Bites 

Potato bites are one of the all-time favourites of kids. Alright, they do make a great snack and are very easy to prepare. Boil the potatoes and mash into small pieces, then in a large mixing bowl add the mashed potatoes, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onions, coriander leaves, and a few ground spices like cumin and red chilies. Take a small portion of the mixture, shape it into a ball, and then cover and fry it in breadcrumbs again. Deep-fry until the colour changes to golden brown. Serve these crispy bites with tomato ketchup or mint chutney, which they can never resist for a treat.

Vegetable Cutlets

Vegetable cutlets can be a healthy and tasty snack that's somewhat cheating because of the number of veggies that one can feed the kids without them noticing it. Grate or mash vegetables of your choice: carrots, peas, beans, potatoes. Mix in bread crumbs, a pinch of garam masala, and a portion of salt. Make this mixture into cutlets and then shallow fry them until they are a beautiful golden brown. Serve these cutlets with a dollop of ketchup or green chutney. Hence, it will be a sure shot hit with kids being fussy eaters. 

Bread Pakodey 

Bread pakodey are loved by children and are an all-time favourite during monsoons. Cut the bread slices in triangles or squares. Make a mixture of gram flour with some turmeric, red chilli powder, and salt for coating. Dip slices of bread in batter and deep fry. What comes out of this is a nice crunchy outside with a warm, soft center. Serve with green chutney or ketchup for an utterly delicious snack that kids never tire of eating. 

Mix Vegetable Pakodey 

Mix vegetable pakodey combines the best of vegetables in a crispy, deep-fried manner. Thinly slice vegetables like onions, potatoes, spinach, and cauliflower. Make a batter with gram flour, turmeric, chilli powder, and a pinch of carom seeds. Dip the vegetable slices into the batter and deep fry until they are golden brown. These pakodey are best enjoyed with a steaming cup of tea and a side of chutney, making them a perfect monsoon snack. 

Besan Chilla 

Besan chilla is perhaps the best answer for a rainy day when you feel like munching on something light and nutritious.Mix the gram flour with water, chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, and coriander leaves into a thick batter. Cook the batter on a hot greased pan till both sides turn golden brown in color. Serve the Chilla with ketchup or yoghurt and you have in front of you a snack that is as healthy as it is tasty.

Idli Sambhar 

Idli sambar, a typical South Indian snack, is enjoyed by children the world over for its soft taste and pillow-like feel. Idli is generally made from fermented rice and lentil batter, but you can get instant ready-to-make batter at convenience stores. Steam your idlis  and serve them with hot, tangy sambhar, a vegetable- and spice-packed lentil broth. This is satisfying, and at the same time healthy food, which will be great for introducing children to the flavours and diversity of ingredients.
