The classic Cuban cocktail known as the "Cuba libre" usually lists authentic American Coca-Cola as one of its essential ingredients. But what if there was a way to make it better?

This recipe uses Coca-Cola from Mexico, which is made with cane sugar. (It's sweeter, bubblier and more effervescent than regular Coke.) "Mexican Coke" is retailed in the US at Mexican markets and Costco outlets. (In India, sites like ubuy and desertcart have options to purchase.)

An additional tweak can be introduced in the form of using a dark or aged rum in place of regular rum. Needless to say, this is only if you like the spirit. Using a Cuban rum, such as Havana Club, elevates your cocktail to another level.

The following recipe makes 6 servings.

60 ml light rum

230 ml cola

1 quarter of lime

5 ice cubes

To make the drink:

Pour rum and cola over ice in a tall glass.

Squeeze lime juice into the drink and add a lime wedge as garnish.

Drink up!
