Come winter in India, and undhiyu season prevails. The sheer brilliance of the Gujarati delicacy – made with a variety of seasonal vegetables and muthia, has the robust flavours of green garlic and spices. So widely popular is the delicacy that even Sara Ali Khan couldn’t get enough of it, once she got a taste. The actress, who recently shared a collage of images showcasing the ingredients and final dish to her fans on social media, had a friend to thank for this home-cooked delight.

In the set of images she posted, one contained a plethora of ingredients that were set to be added to the dish – eggplant, green garlic, taro root, beans, radish, raw banana, and fresh coriander. The picture below these colourful ingredients was the undhiyu in all its glory, ready to be devoured. Sara – who is not one to shy away from expressing her love for delicious Indian food, enjoys home-cooked meals that consist of a variety of vegetables, chicken, dal and rice.

From enjoying simple meals of roti and saag in Kedarnath, to dal-chawal-bhindi at home, Sara was also seen treating herself to a Bengali meal while in Goa last year. The lip-smacking thali, which consisted of cholar dal, an eggplant sabzi, spinach and paneer koftas, raw banana tikkis and a rice-based flatbread, looked like everything one would dream of, for the perfect cheat meal. While her high-protein, low-carb diet keeps her fuelled on most days, she is just like any of us when turning to Indian khaana for the ultimate comfort.
