Sahr, also known as Sahari or Sehri, is a meal eaten by Muslims early in the morning before fasting (sawm), either during or outside of the Islamic month of Ramadan. The meal is consumed prior to the fajr prayer. During Ramadan, sahur corresponds to iftar, the evening meal, which replaces the usual three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), however, dinner is also eaten after iftar later in the night in some regions. Suhur, the last meal eaten by Muslims before fasting from dawn to sunset during the month of Ramadan, is considered a benefit of the blessings by Islamic traditions since it permits the fasting individual to escape the crankiness or weakness induced by the fast.
