A foodie that tries to remain fit and active and knows how to balance her work and workouts is what best describes Rakul Preet Singh. The Indian actress has featured in plenty of Telugu and Tamil films but she made her debut in Hindi cinema with Yaariyan opposite Himansh Kohli. Since then, she has worked on a variety of movies and with great actors, receiving accolades and recognition for her work. The Delhi-born actress has also confessed how she loves to eat. While on promotions for her latest release, she devoured on some of Delhi’s famous food from the streets in the capital. She also seems to have a sweet tooth since we saw her indulging in a sea-creature designed dessert box.
The bubbly, chirpy and fun-loving actress also likes to treat her crew to the best of food as we spotted the team having a lavish Asian lunch in one of Dubai’s best restaurants. In fact, just last week, she was in Leh, Ladakh for a shoot and was gorging on all sorts of regional specialties. She even posted a picture of herself with food and confessed that she cannot do anything without food. Seems like after all the indulgence, the De De Pyaar De actress is trying to get back on track with a healthy diet. Yesterday, Rakul Preet posted a story on Instagram, sharing her first day of gut cleanse.
She was seen holding a glass of what looks like amla juice in one hand and posing for the camera. The actress captioned it saying, “Day 1 Gut cleanse” and tagged her nutritionist below. Since the drink is green in colour and it talks about gut cleanse, we’re assuming it’s amla juice. Amla is the Hindi name for gooseberry. Here’s what it looked like.
Did you know that amla has plenty of benefits? Amla juice is great for boosting immunity because it is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants. Drinking a glass of amla juice on an empty stomach in the morning is believed to solve all sorts of stomach-related problems too, like constipation, indigestion etc. Amla is a great gut cleanser as it makes the stomach alkaline, balancing the acidic levels.
Since amla has such great benefits, why not include it in your diet in more than one way? Here are some recipes that you can try at home.
1. Amla Subzi
Not just a drink, but amla can also be eaten as a subzi in your daily meals. Usually a winter favourite, you can have it in summers too. The amla is sliced into smaller cubes and tossed with green chillies and spices like cumin, mustard, chilli powder, fennel seeds and coriander seeds. This makes a delicious subzi that can be eaten with chapatti.
2. Amla Ka Achaar
Tangy, spicy and tasty, Amla is a great pickle too. Pickles are commonly eaten accompaniments in Indian cuisine and are also known as achaar. Kept in sarson oil along with mustard seeds, turmeric powder and salt, amla is a great pickle type to eat with meals.
3. Amla Ki Meethi Chutney
Chutney is another popular condiment that is often paired with meals across Indian cuisine. You have coriander, mint and plenty of other chutneys from the Indian fare. The amla chutney is a sweet one, made with jaggery, black salt and garam masala.
