Winter is that cozy time of the year when hot winter beverages begin to make the rounds. In India, the colder parts of the year are welcomed with varieties of teas such as Kashmiri tea, masala chai, kadha, hot mushroom tea, and noon chai. It is not simply tea that qualifies as a comfort beverage in winter.

A popular Indian household drink is the Badam milk, which is milk infused with almonds and spices such as nutmeg or cinnamon. The kanji is made from Kala Gajar, a winter vegetable. At its highest maturity, the kanji is meant to be consumed at room temperature. If a classic is what you’re looking for, there’s the hot chocolate, a delightful mix of chocolate, cocoa, and milk with a dollop of whipped cream or marshmallows. A pinch of cinnamon adds a pleasant kick to every chocolate lover’s favorite drink.

Often alcoholic drinks are the best companions during a cold time. A mulled wine infused with spices, or a hot toddy whiskey, concocted with spices, honey, and some sugar are fine options for that purpose. The golden combination of turmeric and honey mixed with milk is a go-to. All in all, several localized and globalized winter beverages help take the hit off the winter chills.
