The sheer awesomeness of tandoori cuisine was no stranger to Pooja Bedi, who seemed to have had a ball of time at New Delhi’s Daryaganj Restaurant recently. The landmark establishment, which is known for iconic Indian inventions like butter chicken and dal makhani, is one of the city’s most-celebrated dining spaces. The former actress, who visited one of the chains was dressed down in a pair of jeans and white top, with glasses, as she posed with the bowl of butter chicken.

All smiles as she waited to dig into her delicious meal, her table also had the famous dal makhani, a makki roti on her plate, which also had sirka pyaaz and green chutney. The restaurant’s official social media shared glimpses of her dinner with the caption, “Great food with even greater company! Looking back at an evening full of Bollywood titbits, and the Original 1947 Butter Chicken.” Pooja also posed for pictures with the co-owners of the legendary place after having happily enjoyed her meal.

For the uninitiated, Daryaganj Restaurant – started by Kundan Lal Jaggi, a culinary master who was a refugee from Punjab, invented the butter chicken as a way of feeding hungry refugees at a time when his kitchen only had a handful of tandoori chicken pieces to spare. Similarly, Jaggi’s spin on what was known then as ‘maa ki dal,’ was an experiment where he left lentils, aromatics and tomatoes to simmer overnight – which created the thick and creamy comfort dish.
