Our land is a treasure trove of fruits, berries, and vegetables. With geographical variants that range from a desert to mountains to plateaus, we have everything that we can put on our plates and have a healthy diet. A few of the most underrated, relatively unknown, and delicious gems are found in the mountains. Pahadi fruits and veggies are really nutritious, tasty, and definitely full of flavours not found in the processed food items we get from the market. One such fruit is kafal, which is PM Narendra Modi’s favourite too. Let us find out more about it.

Kafal, sold at around Rs 300 per kilo, is a sweet berry found in Himachal Pradesh. It caught people’s attention recently when the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, gifted it to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. He handed over the fruit basket to Prime Minister Modi during his visit to New Delhi. It led to a lot of people wondering what this fruit was.

Kafal is a small, round fruit with a thin, edible outer covering that ranges in colour from red to deep purple. Inside, it contains a single seed surrounded by juicy, sweet, and slightly tangy flesh. It is sold with rock salt to give it a nice sweet and salty flavour. Kafal is also rich in antioxidants and can be a great addition to your monsoon diet, as it improves immunity and helps with proper digestion. Be sure to try out kafal, as it is only available during this monsoon season.

When talking about the Indian Prime Minister’s favourite foods, he is known to like simple Indian dishes. From a humble Gujarati background, Modi has always enjoyed ghar ka shakahari, or vegetarian khana, the most. Two of his favourites from Gujarati cuisine are methi thepla and jalebi. Other than that, he loves dosa with a side of nariyal chutney, moong dal ki khichdi, and the famous mango mastani shake from Pune. One of his most loved dishes is also millet upma, which is super healthy. His taste in food is as diverse as the nation that he leads and represents.
