Almost every Indian passenger has sighed a the sight of a sad airline sandwich at some point in their lives. Most Indian airlines offer boxed sandwiches and dry snacks, especially for morning flights and short-day flights. Edelweiss Mutual Fund Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Radhika Gupta, took to social media platform X, to call out for the end of the breakfast sandwiches served by the domestic airlines.

The author and former Shark Tank judge who has an impressive social media following wrote on Twitter, “I am calling for an end to airlines and makers of boxed food who serve two pieces of bread stuffed with cheese and coleslaw (veg sandwich) in the name of breakfast.”

“This is India not the West.  We have amazing breakfast food from across the country - parantha, idlis, dhoklas, and countless others - that are healthy, tasty, affordable and have shelf life.  Our moms make amazing takeaway parantha rolls with leftover sabzis that taste fab,” she added. “Please be creative.  Spare us the sandwich.  We can do better.”

The post went viral and earned more than 480K views. Most netizens supported Gupta’s post and also shared suggestions for Indian airlines. “Innumerable dry food options across the country from each state , we could taste & relish them. No one serves healthy foods , millets or ethnic foods ! Say No to sandwiches , puffs , pastry’s pls,” wrote one X user.

Several netizens also shared what they eat before they catch a flight and if they carry any food. “Best to carry your own food from home. As i always do that. I gives me control on what to have and its healthy. But please add any protein to it,” wrote one user.

“Parathas and Puris have longer shelf life than dhoklas, esplly when served with dry aloo ki sabzi and/or pickle. We used to carry these snacks on long train journeys and relish them even after 4 to 8 hours of travel.  These sandwiches don't taste half as good,” wrote another user.
