Experts have revealed that when you eat dinner later than 7 pm, it can cause several health issues including indigestion, stomach irritability, high blood pressure, and more. And including certain heavy foods can only increase these issues.

In fact, even Ayurveda recommends eating an early dinner and keeping it light. It can also help you sleep better at night. It suggests consuming light foods like khichdi or a glass of milk, along with a few nuts or dry fruits. Wondering what you must avoid eating after 7 pm? Read on. 

1. Biryani

A potful of aromatic biryani is hard to resist, we know. It is known to be one of the most amazing dishes one can ever have. But let’s face it, biryani means calories and fat. We may not realise that when we are lost in the flavours of a meaty biryani, and tend to exceed the amount of fats and calories consumed. Did you know too much biryani may also increase the risk of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)? 

2. Caffeinated Drinks 

This is a common one. We all know caffeinated drinks are often consumed to energise the body, as they are a good stimulant to energise in the morning. But when you consume caffeinated beverages - like tea, coffee, or green tea - it affects our sleep and hampers your overall health.  

3. Spicy Food 

This one is tough to crack considering how India is a hub of spices. Most Indian dishes are full of spices - be it your regular curries, biryanis, snacks, and more. And we all love it to the core, don’t we? But consuming such spicy dishes at night can cause severe heartburn, experts reveal. Add to it the copious amount of ghee and oil that Indian dishes come with, spicy food can further cause heart-related issues.  

4. Sweet Dishes

No matter how much we love gorging on decadent sweet treats post our meal, consuming any of it after 7 pm can hamper the way your body sleeps. It can disrupt the body’s sleep patterns and might make you crave more of it. Experts reveal that sweet dishes can act as a stimulant that can keep you up through the whole night. 

5. Pakoras

Pakoras After 7 pm can lead to stomach irritation, and also hamper your sleep. While crunchy, crispy, and flavourful pakoras are indeed an irresistible treat, consuming it with your tea around 4-5 pm can be your best bet. Deep-fried pakoras are highly acidic in nature, and according to experts, highly acidic foods aren’t easy to digest.
