Mukbangs have become the ‘it’ thing on the internet now. For the uninitiated, a mukbang or meokbang is a Korean word, which can be loosely translated as an eating show. In a typical mukbang, the host consumes various quantities of foods while looking into the camera, and interacts with the audience virtually. In addition to K-Pop, K-Dramas and K- Beauty, Mukbangs has been one of the most successful Korean imports. Mukbangs are a hit on social media and looks like Top Chef host, model and author Padma Lakshmi also couldn’t resist the temptation to try something similar. In one of her latest Instagram reels, Padma Lakshmi went for a Mukbang, but her spread did not include Ramyun, dumplings and other usual Korean suspects. The Indian-origin model performed a Mukbang with Panipuris. In the video, she reveals that it was actually her daughter Krishna Thea Laksmi-Dell's idea.

“Hi everyone, today Krishna wanted me to try to do mukbang, and we are inspired by all these Mukbangs from India, where the women try to eat local traditional foods. So today I am going to do that with Pani Puri or Gol Gappa”, the 51-year-old can be heard saying in the Instagram reel that was posted on Wednesday.

Further, she proceeds to make Panipuri like a pro. She starts with puncturing the tiny puri using her thumb. “We put one (spoon of) sweet chutney, one (spoon of) spicy paani or water and we take it all with one bite,” says Padma Lakshmi in her Mukbang as she takes us through her fun Pani Puri spread.

While she was in the middle of tucking into some delectable Pani Puris, she was also interrupted by adorable dog Divina, who wanted to get “into the action” as well, as per Padma Lakshmi.

“Divina you are ruining the Mukbang”, we heard Krishna shouting from beside Padma Lakshmi. But Divina was in no mood to budge.

Pani Puri, Gol Gappa, Phuchka And Gup Chup, this fascinating snack which involves mini puris that are stuffed with potato, chickpea mixture, and spicy and sweet water is one of the crown jewels of Indian street food.  Today, Pani Puri has many quirky versions, from chocolate Pani Puri to cheese, we have had it all, but that has not affected the popularity of the classic Pani Puri in any way.

If you are craving some Pani Puri after watching all the action. Here’s a recipe you may want to try right away. Try it at home soon and let us know how you liked it. It is up to you whether you want your Puris in semolina base or wheat flour base.
