According to a notable Irish Shakespearean scholar and editor, it was proclaimed that the initial roots of this cocktail traces back from the early 18th century, probably during the early Victorian era. The drink was named after a great British courtier named ‘Francis Negus’ who in fact invented this popular wine cocktail. Negus finds its mention in one of the greatest books of all time popularly known as ‘Jane Eyre’ written by Charlotte Bronte, who was one of the most famous writers in the world. Besides this, Negus made its appearance as a tonic in several books and novels that talked about the features, benefits and the significance of this drink. Ingredients:

  • 30ml wine ( red/white) 
  • 10ml lemon juice 
  • 20 ml hot water 
  • Sugar as per taste

Steps in the making-

  • Take a glass and fill it with parts of wine, lemon juice and then add a wee bit of sugar. 
  • Then pour hot water over it. Stir and mix well. 
  • Ta da! Negus is ready to serve and relish.
