Mors is a traditional Russian drink that comes with a distinctive style of preparation - it’s done by boiling berries with sugar, honey and a dash of lemon juice. The drink is loaded with dozens of berries - including lingonberry, cranberry, blueberries and raspberries. Modern, commercial brands sometimes use fermented and clarified juices to prepare this, while fruit extracts are also used as substitutes, alongside aromatic essences and organic food acids. Mors is not the only Russian drink prepared with a variety of berries. There are tons of other non-alcoholic drinks in Russia that use fruits and berries. In fact, many Russian indigenous drinks cannot be found in any other cuisine. And yes, mors is one of them. When we dug up its history a bit, we saw that this fruit drink appeared in Russian some time in the 16th century when a recipe for it was found in Domostroy, a Russian set of household rules. However, Russians believe that this drink must have existed long before that.

It is a drink that can be relished in any season. During winter, one tends to use whatever seasonal fruits are available to blend this drink. No matter what, the additional flavours of honey and lemon never go unnoticed. Surprisingly, mors has an alcoholic version as well. This drink can be turned into a dazzling cocktail with a splash of vodka. As vodka was initially invented in Russia, it is the preferred spirit that is used in almost every drink in the country. If you are confused about how to make this delightful drink for yourself, we have got a recipe right here. Here are the steps of blending mor:
