We absolutely can’t blame you if even just for a second you were under the impression that this was going to be a milky cocktail. As surprising as it sounds, moose milk is in fact a cocktail that hails from Canada. This traditional Canadian cocktail is basically a mixed alcoholic drink blended using five essential ingredients that include a spirit, brewed coffee or coffee liqueur and a dash of sugar syrup.  The drink is altogether spiced up with nutmeg and finished off with a foamy whipped cream frosting. Some love replacing whipped cream with a scoop of ice cream laid over the top, although in such a case the concoction of alcohol and hot coffee helps in balancing out the coldness of ice cream.

The centuries-old drink has its fine root in the historic celebratory events of the Canadian armed forces. In Canada, every new year's grand celebration is concluded by serving and relishing a glass of moose milk, to honour the members of Armed forces and as a gesture to thank them for their services to the nation. This practice has also been carried out since ages, as back in those days during the early 19th century, the Canadian army drank this drink in nippy weather that warmed up their souls, leaving them feeling calm and relaxed. During those days, every time there was a party held in the Royal Canadian Navy, those serving the drink were known as ‘moosers’. A phrase’ moose is loose’ became common which used a reference to signify the presence of the drink among gatherings and occasions.
