The consumption of rice and wheat is highly valued when discussing a diet for losing weight. The tiny millets, which are considerably healthier and more nutrient-dense than these two, are something we frequently discuss. Among the earliest foods are millet, which are small, hardy, and drought-tolerant plants that can grow well under the most marginal soil fertility and moisture conditions. Millets are grown in mountainous, rain-fed, tribal, and low-fertile environments. Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana are some of these regions. 

Gluten-free, high in protein, fibre, and antioxidants, millets are a healthful whole grain. They are a part of the family of plants known as Poaceae, or grass family. The food grain has been a staple of the Indian diet since ancient times, thanks to its remarkable health advantages, it is currently becoming more and more well-known outside of India. Include these millets in your daily diet for weight loss.

Finger Millet or Ragi 

Iron, a trace mineral needed by human body to generate haemoglobin in the red blood cells, is particularly abundant in ragi. It also has the highest levels of calcium and potassium. Ragi's high fibre content slows digestion in the stomach, allowing you to feel fuller for longer. Studies indicate that because ragi does not cause a blood sugar surge, it is also advantageous for diabetics. This cereal grain may be given to children for brain development due to its high amino acid content. 

Sorghum or Jowar 

Various nutrients are found in sorghum, including Vitamin B, magnesium, and antioxidants- flavonoids, phenols, and tannins. Vitamin B are essential for increasing metabolism and enhancing the appearance of hair and skin, while magnesium is good for your bones and heart. Additionally, 96 gram of sorghum provide about 20% of the daily necessary amount of fibre. Fiber helps you lose weight, maintain healthy blood sugar levels, and support intestinal health.

Pearl Millet or Bajra 

Bajra, also known as pearl millet, is a rich source of calcium, magnesium, iron, protein, and fibre. This grain is incredibly low in calories and one of the greatest grains to choose while trying to lose weight. Because it contains fibre, you stay fuller for longer without consuming more calories each day. Bajra can lower cholesterol, manage blood pressure, and prevent asthma in addition to reducing the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes and various cancers. 

Amaranth or Rajgira 

An old grain called amaranth has recently become very popular. The dietary grain is a good source of protein, fibre, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. Manganese levels in amaranth are substantial, exceeding your daily requirements in just one serving. This little mineral helps the brain work better and guards against several neurological diseases. Its protein and fibre composition aids in muscle growth and digestive wellness. Amaranth is actually more nutrient-dense than quinoa.

Kangni or Foxtail Millet 

Rice flour or semolina are popular forms of foxtail millet. It maintains blood sugar levels and strengthens the immune system because to its high iron and calcium content. Given its abundance in dietary fibre and complex carbs, foxtail millet is a wonderful choice of food for those attempting to lose weight. Low cholesterol levels, a healthy digestive system, and a strong heart are additional advantages of foxtail millet consumption.
