Winter is at our doorstep, and we have already started taking out our woolen clothes. With chilly weather and cool breeze, the season of gajar ka halwa, gushtaba and masala chai has come. Winter also brings various seasonal produce like apples, pears, grapes, cauliflower, carrots, spinach, and radishes. Apart from these, methi is another vegetable that is widely relished across the country.  

According to Healthline, 100 g of fenugreek leaves contains 23 g of protein, 24.6 g of fibre, 33 mg iron, 176 mg calcium and 770 mg of potassium. This leafy green helps in controlling cholesterol, weight management, and improves bone health. This vegetable is very simple to prepare and can be easily added to our winter diet.

Here are six recipes you can prepare with methi this winter season: 

Methi Paratha

This is a classic winter breakfast that is loved all across the country. Made with whole wheat flour, fenugreek leaves and spices like garam masala and chilli powder, it can also be packed in the tiffin box. Methi paratha is best paired with curd, pickle or any of your favourite chutneys. 

Methi Kadhi

Kadhi is a well-known side dish that is widely enjoyed for lunch. It is easy to prepare and goes well for all seasons. It has got many varieties and one of them is methi kadhi. Made with fenugreek leaves, yoghurt, gram flour and spices, methi kadhi is a go-to dish in Rajasthani cuisine and goes well with jeera rice or peas pulao. 

Methi Aloo 

Methi aloo is a simple yet delicious side dish for winter that goes well for all three meals. Made with potatoes, fenugreek leaves and spices like cumin, asafoetida, garam masala and garlic, this dish is healthy along with being delicious. It can be paired with roti, rice paratha and poori. 

Methi Pulao

This is an easy and delicious one-pot dish that you can enjoy for lunch as well as dinner. Made with fresh fenugreek leaves, basmati rice, mix vegetables (like carrots, peas, cauliflower etc.), herbs and spices, methi pulao can be paired with raita as well as dal. You can also add a few chunks of paneer to the dish for a better flavour. 

Methi Muthia

This is a delicious tea-time snack from Gujarat. Also known as ‘methi na muthiya’, it can be prepared either by deep frying, steaming or air-frying. Made with gram flour, fenugreek leaves, baking soda, red chilli powder and spices like red chilli powder and mustard seeds, methi muthia is best served with any spicy or sweet chutney. 

Methi Chicken

This leafy green can also be used for preparing non-veg dishes such as methi chicken. Packed with aromatic flavours of fenugreek leaves, spices and herbs, this chicken curry is perfect for a hearty weekend meal. You can serve it with basmati rice, naan or roti for both lunch and dinner.
