Former MasterChef Australia judges – Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris, who are currently in India, seem to have themselves more than enough to explore with the diverse food choices across the country. The trio, who have been on tour with a company that exclusively curates masterclasses and pop-up dinners for a select audience, are having a gala time eating some delicious meals at some local haunts around Mumbai – where they first stopped to engage with an audience.

Visiting Kyani & Co. for breakfast – they enjoyed some delicious kheema pao, mutton pattice, masala omelette, bun maska and masala chai. Matt, who posted a video detailing a glimpse of their breakfast during the early hours, captioned it saying, “Mumbai breakfast - it must be Irani. We headed to @kyaniandco_official for their famous chai and bun maska. Sure, we also order keema, an omelette, etc as is traditional. With @garymehigan and @gcalombaris.” This was followed by a little walk around khau galli – or the city’s famous eat street in a South Mumbai neighbourhood, where they relished some roasted water chestnuts for a quick snack.

Once they had finished engaging in paying a visit to some tourist attractions around the city, the three of them made a beeline for some more food at Swati Snacks. Trying some of the best offerings like the pani puri, dahi papdi chaat and vada pav, along with glasses of buttermilk sprinkled with chaat masala, to wash it all down, Matt’s Instagram comments were filled with recommendations from people who appreciated them for steeping themselves in a truly local experience. Matt also expressed words of appreciation for the service and the food in his caption that said, “Water chestnuts in Khau galli and pane puri at @swatisnacks with 2nd gen owner and chef on hand for me to fanboy over. I first went to the original site 17 or so years ago and it’s a Mumbai must for me each visit!”

The three-city tour that ended with the ex-judges in Bengaluru, also saw them enjoying crisp benne dosas at Rameshwaram Café and filter coffee and medu vadas as a ‘farewell breakfast’ at a local eatery. Matt, who was all praises for the team of chefs that assisted them throughout their stay in India, also went on to praise the energy and attitude of his team by saying that India’s culinary future was in good hands. If that isn’t promise enough for more good food, what really is!
