Marathi Moggu, translating to "Marathi bud," is the dried flower bud of a tree closely related to nutmeg and mace called the kapok tree. These buds are harvested right before they bloom and are then dried, which gives them their characteristic deep brown colour and rich aroma. Although it is commonly believed to be a spice indigenous to Maharashtra, its true roots are in southern India. Its character is said to be very light but very noticeable, thus the woody note with something resinous and a bit sweet with hints of cinnamon and a hint of citrus.
