Makar Sankranti is a festival that all of u love to celebrate with our families and dear ones. There are several traditional dishes that are made and they're specifically related to some or the other custom that are specific to different regions of India. And some dishes are made just because they are the order of the season. A lot of these dishes are made with seasonally available ingredients and they make our winter season more special.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice 
  • 5-6 cloves 
  • 300 gms jaggery powder 
  • 3 tbsp ghee 
  • 2 tsp cardamom powder 
  • 2 tbsp coconut flakes 
  • Almonds and cashew nuts for garnishing

Method 

  • Soak the basmati rice in double the amount of water for half an hour.
  • Rinse it properly and put a pan on the gas flame.
  • Add 4 cups of water along with the cloves and put your rice to boil.
  • After the rice is boiled properly, drain it and keep it aside.
  • In another pan, heat up the ghee. 
  • Now, add your jaggery powder and cook till it's completely melted. 
  • Add the cardamom powder to it along with the clove flavoured rice. 
  • Cover with a lid and cook the rice for four to five minutes. 
  • Remove the lid and sprinkle coconut flakes. 
  • Garnish the rice with almonds and cashew nuts and serve your wonderful sweet dish.
