As the winning duos of preliminary contests made a beeline to compete against one another in the semi-final and final rounds for the Lupin Aptivate Achchi Bhook Quiz in Mumbai on Sunday, December 15, the parent-child teams were tested on their depth of knowledge about nutrition and healthy eating, among other trivia about history, pop culture and fashion. Facing off in pan-Indian cities of Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Meerut, Kanpur and Dehradun – celebrity host Amrita Raichand played anchor to a total of six teams in the finale.

Parents and children tackled questions that tied food histories with politics, fun trivia that led to popular dishes deriving their names and more – all to land some exciting prizes which included high-end electronic gadgets and more. “Children must develop an early understanding of dishes, ingredients and their history, so that they can connect with the idea of mindful eating. This is such an interesting and engaging way to do that,” Raichand added. Emerging as winner in the overall contest was Dr Pillai Global Academy’s Milan Bijoy, a grade 4 student – who participated alongside his father, Bijoy Rajendrababu.

Following close on the heels of the winning duo was Samkit Gupta from St Soldier’s School in Chandigarh, who was declared first runner-up along with his homemaker mother, Anjali Jain. Avyukt Doshi who represented Children’s Academy in Mumbai snagged the second runner-up spot with his mother, Sejal Joshi. As the team caught up with the winners, fresh off their new achievement, Milan’s father Bijoy said that “We’re all foodies, so this contest was right up our alley. My wife Indubala did a lot of research; my son did too. And the three of us sat together to read, watch videos online and learn together.”

In addition to this, as a way of keeping the audience engaged, questions were also thrown in their direction about some Indian culinary classics like the butter chicken and pav bhaji. Anil V Kaushal, Lupin Life’s business head stated that the quiz was a celebration of healthy eating, curiosity and the joy of learning. “There has been an overwhelming enthusiasm from participants, a heartening sign of the impact on young minds and on families,” he added.
