Spaghetti has a classic fan following and this is for a reason. Nearly every country has some or other form of pasta. One can find a variety of pasta and spaghetti is one much loved. Spaghetti becomes more special as it gives an opportunity to play with versatile ingredients. January 4th is celebrated as National Spaghetti Day and we must appreciate this beauty.
For those who don’t know, spaghetti comes from the word ‘Spago’ which in English translates to ‘string’. As per some legends, Spaghetti’s existence has been recorded in Italy since the 12th century. Though there is no exact information about its origin, some believe that Marco Polo brought the invention of noodles back to Italy around 1295. There were only two places I.e., Italy and China in the world where noodle was a staple food. No matter how it came to being, we can enjoy this meal however we like. Isn’t it?? Spaghetti makes for a delicious inexpensive meal. So, let’s see two different sauces to have with spaghetti.
Spaghetti
Ingredients
- A packet of dry spaghetti noodles
- Water to boil
- 2 tbsp salt
Method
- Take a large pan and add salt to it. Large pan to give enough space to the spaghetti.
- Let the water boil for some time.
- When done, add the dry spaghetti. Slowly lower the noodles and use a spaghetti spoon to stir the noodles well.
- Stir frequently and cook the noodles as suggested in the spaghetti packet.
- When done, strain the spaghetti using a colander and keep it aside.
Quick Meat Sauce
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 1 tbsp garlic (minced)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp red pasta sauce
- .45 kg ground meat
- Grated parmesan cheese
Method
- Heat a pan and add vegetable oil.
- Add in chopped onions and garlic. Let them cook until the onion-garlic mixture becomes fragrant.
- Add ground meat and cook it for 8 to 9 minutes.
- Add in the pasta sauce and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Pour the cooked sauce over the spaghetti and serve
Homemade Red Sauce
- 7 to 8 tomatoes (peeled)
- 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 red onions (diced)
- 3 garlic cloves (chopped)
- A handful of fresh basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
Method
- Take tomatoes and grind them to make a smooth puree.
- Meanwhile, heat a pan and add oil and chopped onions.
- Add in the garlic and red pepper flakes. Stir well till the onions become fragrant.
- Add in the tomato puree, pepper, and salt to taste. Stir well.
- Let it cook for 25 to 30 minutes. Add in fresh basil and red pepper flakes.
- Spoon the red sauce over the spaghetti and serve!
