One of my fondest memories of winters is opening my tiffin box in the recess to find the delicious winter produce made into indulgent delicacies. From gajar ka halwa to makkhanwaale paratha, the winter delights are undoubtedly the best things about winter school days. One of the best lunches that I used to enjoy was sprouts chaat. Extremely decadent, filling and healthy, the chaat was one of the simplest and most flavourful things to devour in. although the process of making the chaat seemed quite easy back then, the real struggle began when I tried to make it myself. The sprouts were soggy and tasted quite different than what I expected them to be. If you find yourself in the same situation as me, then here are some easy tips you need to keep in mind while storing sprouts.
1.Keep Them In An Airy Plastic Bag
Loosely pack the sprouts in a plastic bag. Bloat the bag up with some air and tie it up before storing it. This method is proven to keep sprouts fresh longer.
2.Cover Them In An Absorbent Paper Towel
Instead of packing all the sprouts in one layer, place them in two layers with an absorbent paper towel in between. You can store them either in a container or a plastic bag.
3.The Soaking Method
One of the most trustable methods to keep sprouts fresh longer is to discard the not-so-good-looking ones. Store the rest of the sprouts in a container with a lid by soaking them in water. You can keep this container in the fridge to store them for a longer period.
4.No Freezing
The worst mistake you can do while storing sprouts is to store them in the fridge as they are. Storing them in the fridge ruins their texture and you end up with soggy sprouts the next day.
5.Remove The Tails
Although I don’t swear by this tip, my mom sure does. Although a tedious job, removing the tails keeps the sprouts fresh longer. The stringer tails are also quite annoying to some people. So, if you are one of them, then you can take the pain to remove them.
We hope these tips will be helpful for you. Also, don’t forget to try the delicious sprouts recipes on our site.
