On the auspicious day of the Hindu festival Karva Chauth, women begin their day with a practice called Sargi and then fast all day long until it is time to break their fast. The Hindu holiday of Karwa Chauth includes sargi. During the religious celebrations of Karwa Chauth, several married Hindu women observe a fast from dawn to moonrise for their husbands' long life, good fortune, and riches.

Karwa Chauth is a festival that is observed on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi and is observed during the month of Kartik in the Hindu lunar calendar. Married ladies rise early and take what is known as Sargi at dawn in order to ensure the happiness of their husbands. This sargi is actually a traditional meal, a thali, or a collection of various foods that women get from their mothers-in-law.

In order to bless her daughter-in-law on this auspicious day and to send her well wishes so she can complete the fast successfully, the mother-in-law makes a thali, or Sargi, for her. A sargi is the only item that can keep the woman on the fast from continuing the rest of the day without food  and water. A thali that includes both sweet and savoury foods as well as dry fruits, coconuts, vermicelli, and fruits is said to as an excellent sargi. There are numerous reasons why certain items should be included in the sargi thali, despite the fact that it appears delicious.

Fresh Fruits

Everyone is aware that fresh fruits contain a lot of water. Eating a lot of fresh fruits can help a woman stay hydrated because a nirjala Karva Chauth vrat requires one to continue without drinking any water.

Dry Fruits

Energy and a variety of nutrients are provided by dry fruits. The sargi thali provides you with all the necessary nutrients for the day if cashews, almonds, raisins, and pistachios are included.

Light Meals

Vermicelli, perhaps a simple semi-cooked vegetable, or halwa can also be served as part of the sargi thali. Even though they will fill you up, they won't be so filling. It also keeps you hydrated and doesn’t urges to drink water.

Sweets

Actually, one can begin the fast (vrat) with something sweet, like a couple of mithais. A mithai will provide you the energy you need to go through the rest of the day since it is high in glucose and sugar.

Milk

One can even have milk with added flavours like Cardamom, Kesar or Turmeric to feel energetic throughout the day.

Well, these are some of the suggestions, you can add anything of your choice to the sargi thali to feel satiated and keep going.

Mathi

Deep-fried, sugar syrup-coated Punjabi fried puris called Meethi Mathi or mathri are served on  karwa chauth. They are prepared from refined flour. Both the inside and the outside of these mathris are soft. A custom during Karwa Chauth is to prepare delicious mathri for Sargi. One of the most popular and loved deep-fried treats.
