Actress Karisma Kapoor who ruled the screens and our hearts pretty much through the 90s, maybe very selective with her on-screen projects now but on Instagram, she is one of the most interesting celebs to follow, especially if you are a foodie. That’s right, Karisma Kapoor, much like most members of her family has always identified as a food buff. While she may be one of the fittest actors of tinsel town still, but when it comes to indulging, she doesn’t hold back. Remember her Thanksgiving feast? Didn’t the Turkey roast and pie look too sumptuous to resist?

On Sunday, the actress took to Instagram again to give us a sneak peek of her Sunday binge, which was a plate of homemade chicken biryani and raita. “Homemade Biryani #lololoves”, Karisma wrote in her story caption.

For the uninitiated, Biryani is a rice dish made with spices and meat. While the dish has many vegetarian versions too now, when the Mughals popularised the dish in India, it was a meaty delicacy that graced the courts often. Soon the dish also travelled outside of the courts and the rest, as they say, is history. Biryani was the most ordered dish as per Swiggy in the year gone by, and we are not surprised. The many kinds of Biryani, be it Lucknawi, Hyderabadi or Kolkata Biryani is proof of how every region has given this rice dish its own spin.

Biryani, more particularly chicken biryani, is typically made with chicken that is marinated and cooked in a pool of masalas. The chicken is then mixed with rice which is about 70 percent cooked. The preferred rice to cook biryani is aged long-grain basmati. Some kewra essence and birista (fried onions) also help lend an authentic experience. So what are you waiting for?
