Doesn’t matter if you are a Sikh or not but everybody loves having a bite of Kada Prasad. Has it ever happened with you that you visited a Gurudwara ad returned without savouring a dollop of delicious Kada Prasad? Never, right? That’s how significant Kada prasad is to Sikhs. Served as a prasad, Sikhs believe that Kada Prasad is the Guru’s blessings and one shouldn’t say “No” to it. It is believed that a Guru never sends a disciple empty-handed and this belief backs the offering of Kada Prasad in Gurudwaras. The decadent Prasad is basically a halwa made with wholewheat flour, ghee, sugar and dry fruits. The ratio of flour to ghee is 1:1 which is the reason behind the smooth and melt-in-mouth texture of the Prasad. The typical Kada Prasad of Gurudwaras is mostly served plain and simple i.e., without any dry fruits or raisins topping. However, one can experiment with toppings and ingredients while making it at home. Do you also want to make the ghee-rich Kada Prasad at home? Here’s the recipe for you to try.
Preparation time- 5 minutes
Cooking time- 20 minutes
Servings- 2
INGREDIENTS
•1 cup whole wheat flour
•1 cup clarified butter/ghee
•2 tbsp chopped almonds
•1 tbsp chopped cashew nuts
•1 cup sugar
•1 tbsp raisins
METHOD
1.Heat a kadai and roast the flour till it's golden brown. Do not burn it or else it’ll taste bitter. Remove it from heat and keep it aside.
2.In the same pan, heat some ghee and roast the dry fruits and raisins. Keep them aside.
3.Heat water in a pan and add sugar. Cook till the sugar gets dissolved.
4.In a Kadai, add a cup of ghee and atta. Cook this ghee and atta mixture till it changes colour.
5.Next, add the syrup and cook till the atta absorbs the water and the fat separates.
6.Remove the Halwa from heat and serve after garnishing it with dry fruits and raisins.
You can substitute the sugar with jaggery powder if you are on a diet and want to give the alwa a healthy twist. Serve this hot and voila!
